Challenge: Our client developed a breakthrough medical device that uses sound waves to monitor umbilical blood flow, identifying fetal growth issues weeks earlier than traditional methods. However, they faced a critical tension: while their data scientists required vast amounts of precise information to refine the device’s accuracy, the midwives using it had only a 15-minute window to perform multiple tests and maintain a meaningful connection with their patients.

As the lead strategist and designer, I bridged the gap between the need for "perfect data" and the human needs of midwives and their patients. Through user research, our team discovered that every second spent fiddling with a screen was a second lost to patient care. I designed a frictionless user experience that guided midwives to apply the device correctly and receive results they could readily understand. Simultaneously, we developed a technical architecture that seamlessly collected the necessary data behind the scenes.

Our UX design and technical architecture proved the tool could succeed in a high-pressure clinical setting. By resolving the tension between data depth and an efficient user experience, we delivered the validated proof of conceptthe client needed to secure their next round of venture funding.
